Relativistic Jets in Radio-Weak Quasars and LINER Galaxies

چکیده
We discuss radio observations of a sample of radio-weak and radio-intermediate quasars which demonstrate that – just like their radio-loud counterparts – radioweak quasars too have relativistic jets in their nuclei. Moreover, a VLA survey of nearby LINER galaxies reveals a relatively large number of flat-spectrum radio cores. It is suggested that those cores are also best explained by moderately relativistic jets (γ ∼ 2) produced by a central engine.

Relativistic Jets in Radio - Weak Quasars
We discuss radio observations of a sample of radio-weak and radio-intermediate quasars which demonstrate that { just like their radio-loud counterparts { radio-weak quasars too have relativistic jets in their nuclei. Moreover, a VLA survey of nearby LINER galaxies reveals a relatively large number of at-spectrum radio cores. It is suggested that those cores are also best explained by moderately...
متن کاملJets in AGN – New Results from HST and VLA
This paper summarizes some of our recent projects which try to illuminate the nature and importance of jets associated with active nuclei and compact objects. After a short introduction on jets in radio galaxies and radio loud quasars the paper focuses on jets in other source types, such as radio-quiet quasars, Seyfert and LINER galaxies, and stellar mass black holes. Radio observations of quas...
متن کاملEVN+MERLIN Observations of Radio-Intermediate Quasars: Evidence for Boosted Radio-Weak Quasars
We present VLBI (EVN+MERLIN) observations of a sample of three low-redshift radio-intermediate PG quasars (RIQ) with at and variable radio spectrum (III Zw 2, PG 1309+355, PG 2209+184). Their radio-to-optical ux ratio (R) is slightly lower than the average R for steep-spectrum quasars, but their radio spectral properties are those of core-dominated quasars. It was proposed previously that these...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملThe Nature of Radio-Intermediate Quasars: What is Radio-Loud and what is Radio-Quiet?
We have performed quasi-simultaneous radio flux density measurements at 2.7 and 10 GHz for all PG quasars with radio flux densities between 4-200 mJy. We find that a large fraction of these sources are variable, flat-spectrum quasars. This brings the total fraction of flat-spectrum quasars with a ratio between radio and optical flux of R > 10 — a value previously used to define a radio-loud qua...
